History of the IncineratorIn 2014, MPs ignored objections by local people and councilors and granted permission for a waste incinerator at Tata, Griffiths Road, Lostock. Northwich.
In Wales, 10 mega watts is the maximum size for an incinerator but here they designed a 60 mega watt plant, then permission was granted for it to expand to 90 mega watt. Now, LSEP are asking to bring in more waste by road to help meet their 90 mega watt target, burning 728,000 tonnes of rubbish a year (600,000 tonnes was the previous agreed limit). We fear this will create significantly more lorries on our roads carrying more waste to feed the plant, causing more diesel fumes, more toxic emissions from the chimney and removal of more hazardous ash. |
Dangers of IncineratorsIn the UK, Incinerators are being built in areas, like Rudheath, where residents already experience deprivation. By increasing traffic in this area residents are more likely to experience health issues and the obvious hazards and nuisance of heavy lorries close to their homes. They predict there will be an HGV along this road every 6 minutes.
We believe ALL residents in Northwich deserve clean air and safe roads. There are 5 main dangers: 1) LORRIES - carrying waste to the site make our roads dangerous 2) NOISE - from construction, lorries coming and going and 24 hour burning 3) POLLUTION - diesel fumes, invisible toxins and particulates 4) CARBON DIOXIDE & CARBON MONOXIDE add to Climate Change 5) EXPLOSIONS & FIRES at incinerators are not uncommon |
Our Solutions
Incinerators are already old technology.
They offer no benefits other than profits to private companies and investors New 'BIODIGESTERS' can process waste and create compost, clean materials to recycle and electricity WITHOUT the release of hazardous pollutants, carbon or fly ash. |

How can I help?
You can support in 3 easy ways, whether your an adult or a child:
1) EVERYONE: JOIN US and offer your help. Chat to your neighbours about the expansion, hand out fliers or share your skills with us, we are doing art projects and a march through the town. 2) GROWN UPS - EMAIL the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Email the Government to tell them what you think! We CAN raise our voices to fight this polluting decision before 2nd December. (click the orange button to get started) 3) CHILDREN (and big kids!) - DECORATE A CLEAN AIR BIRD! Join our craft campaign to send a powerful message to ministers and give our children a voice. Grown ups complete the top details and children decorate the bunting ready for us to display in the town and take to London! Return your completed bird & label to a volunteer. We will also arrange collection from schools too. |
