A Creative Campaign.... |
Transition Northwich are inviting artists of all ages to get creative!
The Clean Air Bird Bunting will be displayed and delivered to the decision makers in Parliament.
We want to empower young people. We certainly don't want anyone to feel scared or anxious.
We have written a short introduction to help young people understand the purpose of the Clean Air Birds:
"Everyday people throw away lots of plastic containers, food waste and rubbish in the bin.
They are building a very big factory in Northwich to burn all that rubbish. But burning rubbish is smelly and makes bad gases and lots of CO2 which is bad for our world. CO2 is making our world warmer, melting the icecaps and changing the weather. We don't want MORE CO2, we want LESS!
Now, they want to make this factory even BIGGER and have MORE LORRIES driving to Northwich everyday to deliver the rubbish to burn. Lorries and burning rubbish make our air dirty. But humans and animals need clean air.
We don't have to burn rubbish.
Firstly, we can reduce how much waste we throw away. We can repair things that are broken, reuse things lots of times and recycle 70% of all our waste. There are clever ways to clean waste too.
Can you decorate your 'Clean Air Bird'? You can write a message or colour it in. You can use any art materials you like.
Don't forget to write your first name and your age and ask an adult to complete the label. Your adult can also say No! by email to the people who want to make the smelly rubbish factory bigger, to tell them what they think about it!
We will take your lovely Clean Air Birds to London and give them to the people who decide things.
With lots of birds and lots of emails, local people can say NO! to the factory getting bigger and our air will be cleaner for everyone!"
The sad truth is that the youngest members of our community will be most impacted by this incinerator:
In Runcorn, 196 residents are taking legal action against Viridor because life near their incinerator is ‘unbearable’. They complain that they can no longer use their gardens, can’t open windows and are unable to sleep due to noise and light pollution and smells.
Other concerns re the expansion variant include:
In addition to the bunting, families and individuals can issue comments on the application directly.
Email: to the BEIS Energy Infrastructure Planning team: [email protected]
Please reference: ‘Lostock Sustainable Energy Plant – Section 36 Consent Variation Application’.
The consultation closes on Thursday 2 December 2021.

Other concerns re the expansion variant include:
- Kings Road already has close to maximum levels of air pollution
- Diesel particulates are known to aggravate respiratory health issues
- Heavy lorries will put families living alongside Kings Road at risk.
- Burning waste creates invisible toxic gases such as dioxins and carbon monoxide
- It is not uncommon for gas leaks to occur from incinerators.
- The new CO2 emissions will contribute to worsening the Climate crisis
- Children are at greatest risk of aggravated health problems and will have to live with the climate crisis, so will be most impacted by the incinerator.
